United Express Van Lines
Ripoff

After choosing United Express Van Lines to do our move, mostly due to their initial estimate, I am disgusted by the way this company jacks the prices and treats the consumer. Like many of the people on this site, we were estimated one price and after the truck had been loaded and locked, told that the price was actually more than double.

Our intial date was set on Saturday the 4th of January between 7am-9am. That time frame came and went until I called the dispatch and they told me thay would find out where the movers were and call me back. The whole rest of the day I could not reach anyone in the office to let me know where the drivers were. I had all but given up until I received a call from the driver at 7pm claiming weather problems. I was told they could be there the next morning between 7am and 9am. They showed up at 10:30am

They told us initialy that the cubic foot would be 547 and the price would be $3.19 per cubic foot. The price that we received was $6.70 and per cube which I had immedately questioned. I argued with the driver until I had told them to take my belongings off the truck. The driver called someone and gave me the price of $4.00 per cubic foot. I was not happy but I agreed and asked what the total price was.

When the driver told me that the price would be $4,495.00 I questioned that price as well. The driver told me that there was no one left in the office, being a Sunday, but they would take care of me since they misquoted my price.

That Monday the 6th my wife talked to Joe and was yelled at by him teling her that this was the price she was getting. She told him that she wanted to cancel the move and to bring our belongings back to the house. He yelled at her that if she wanted to do that, we would be charged per hour for the drivers, mileage and storage because the material was already in Chicago. She told him that was unacceptable. Joe yelled at her that he did not want to talk to her anymore because she wasnt the one at the house at the time of the move and hung up on her.

I called the company hoping to speak with someone of authority. I was told repeatedly someone would call me back. I did not get through to anyone until Wednsday. I talked to Joe who told me that he was the only boss and that if I wanted my stuff that I would have to deal with him. He also told me that I needed to send him a money order before he could set up a time to deliver. I told him that I would overnight a money order if he could guarantee me that my belongings would be at my home Friday. He assured me that this could be arranged since my stuff was in Texas already.

I called Thursday to confirm that the funds did indeed arrive that day. The woman on the phone put me on hold for about ten minutes and came back telling me that it did arrive. I asked her to confirm a time when my things would be brought to me. She again put me on hold, when someone came back to the line it was a man named Sam Potter. He told me that he was the boss and that my delivery could not be scheduled because I owed him money.

After talking (yelling) back and forth, he told me that he could not tell me when my belongings would get to my destination. I aked him if his company was going to uphold any part of their bargain. His response was that he did not want to lie to me and tell me that something could be done if it actually couldnt. My response was that maybe he could excersise this business practice throughout the whole ordeal, and that telling the truth would be a brand new twist to this whole experience in dealing with his company.

He told me that he would call me back to let me know whent hey could set up delivery. Still no call. My advise is do not use this company or anything that sounds like it. Hopefully someone will be able to put these thieves out of business for good.
