On 12/16/06 I had scheduled We Clean America to come to my apartment and clean it. I had seen their advertisement in Valu-Pak and decided to try them out. It was my first time having someone clean this apartment, as I had just moved in four months prior and my husband and I agreed to have someone come regularly. Anyway, when I spoke with them on the phone they said that it would take about 2 1/2 hours to clean the apartment. I thought that was fine. They showed up on time (at least from what I can remember), but they left in a hurry! They were only in the apartment for 1 1/2 hours. There were two people - a man and a woman. They were quick to say, 'We're finished. Please give us your money.' I wrote them a check for $55 (I had a $10 coupon) and they were on their way. I then proceeded to inspect the apt and discovered that they had done a less than impressive job all around, but most importantly they did not clean the floors in the kitchen, the breakfast nook, the laundry room, and the bathroom. The floors are linoleum in these rooms and they did not use a mop or clean them at all. I was very upset. I called back in less than 48 hours to report it to them, as their contract claims that they will "either inspect your premises, re-clean areas where needed or, at WCA's discretion, issue a credit." When I spoke to someone I told them what happened and they told me that in the contract it states that, "You will inform WCA... Of services you need, such as cleaning the inside of your refrigerator or the kitty litter." I told him that I did not think that the floors were akin to the refigerator or kitty litter and there is no way that I should have to explicitly point that out to them, especially since they explicitly state that they clean/mop floors on their ad!
Anyway, when I asked him if they would come out and at least clean the floors... Immediately, he stated that they would not. However, they would be happy to give me $5 off my NEXT CLEANING. Obviously I had no intention of there being a next time. The customer service rep was clear that they had no intentions of making right on their contract. My husband and I decided to stop payment on the check. I had no intention of paying for dishonest services. I proceeded to look them up on the Better Business Bureau's site and found out that they had 40 complaints against them and a grade of F! I then filed a complaint myself. (This was in Dec. 2006. Today they have 70 complaints against them and a grade of F.) I proceeded to contact ValPak (where I found their coupon) and told them that they should remove We Clean America from their mailer. I explained that I would never be able to use/trust any of their advertisers based on my experience knowing that they support this type of vendor. ValPak was unimpressionable, but did tell me they would speak to We Clean America.
Needless to say, we got ourselves off the ValPak mailing. A couple of weeks ago I received in the mail a letter explaining that if I did not pay them (a total of $85 - $55 for cleaning $25 for bank fees $5 for certified letter) then they would be filing in small claims court, where I could be ordered to pay them a maximum of $1500. Basically, they are crooks. And all of the other letters here are further proof to me, that I'm right. I knew something was shady when I had to sign a contract up front explicitly saying that I would NOT cancel a check. I just assumed that since it was in ValPak, and they seemed legit that they would at least honor their contract. I was so wrong. I will never hire another company for these types of services again without checking the BBB. If they do serve me, I will be happy to defend myself in court.
