I am also another victim of DirecTV. When I ordered DirecTV/DVR I was told of all of the free installation I would be getting, a 30 day free trial period, and a 90 day warranty. I decided that I did not care for DirecTV's features or program guide, and recording programs was the biggest one. If a program you want to record comes on three times a day Monday through Friday, then you cannot change it; your choice is to do a lot of deleting or watch it live.
Well, like everyone else that was a victim of what they call "an early cancellation fee," after 12 days I cancelled with DirecTV and was hit with a bill for $487.00. When I called them, I was told they do not have a 30 day free trial, and that with a DVR I was contracted for 24 months.
After continued phone conversations and e-mails, they were not going to budge. I called a consumer attorney and it would cost me $250.00 an hour for their services, so that was out. I told DirecTV that I was in my 30 day free trial and I was not paying this bill. After a few weeks I was turned over to a collection agency, and if the bill was not paid they would put a judgment against me. To keep from paying the $487.00, I had to reinstate with them for the 24 month period. It is so sad that a company like this has to lie and cheat to get customers.
