Legacy Long Distance
Corrupt Company Supported by Regulators

My wife made a call from JFK terminal on March 2nd on my cell phone using telephones operated by Legacy. Since she didn't have change, she made a call using credit card. She followed the instruction to use credit card and made a call that lasted less than a minute. There was no notification or warning arount the charges. The call went through after she has entered all the credit information.

When we got the credit card statement, we saw a charge of $11.24. We called Legacy and asked for the explanation for the charge. They told us that it was a collect call, which is not the case. We simply used credit card instead of paying cash. The charge of $11.24 for 1 minutes call is simply outrageous and is like a robbery. As per Legacy, this robbery seems to be authorized by regulators like FTC.

I have my credit card statement that shows that it was 1 minute call. My wife is absolutely positive that she didn't initiate collect call, rather simply paid by credit card for a long distance call. This is happening at a location where people sometimes use these telephones out of desperation. Companies shouldn't be allowed to rob people and regulators shouldn't support such companies. If this is indeed approved by regulators, this kind of "legal corruption" is only possible in America.

I have filed a complaint with FTC and plan to call "New Channel 7: Shame on you" segment to report this.
