Refused to repair a past vendor's bad work from 3 years ago

Back in late I had a leak in my son's bathroom tub that went to the downstairs area of my home. I called AHS about the problem and they sent a vendor to my home. Sometime in mid again there was leaking in the same spots.

I called AHS and they sent out a different vendor to review the problem. Keep in mind each time I had to pay the service fee of $55.00. After the second vendor reviewed the problem, he tells me that he saw nothing wrong with the previous work. I asked him why I had the leaks return in my ceiling and he said he checked those stains and they were from the first leak. Of course, I had them stained treated and painted, and asked him why they would show up again. He told me that was common and that I should retreat the area and paint.

In early the leaks returned in the same exact spots and this time was severe. I called AHS and they sent out a third vendor to review the problem. The vendor tells me without any question that there has been a slow leak for a very long time and that the previous work was the "absolute" cause of the first vendor using bad materials and incorrect installation of the part. He put this in writing for AHS.

AHS said that they would have to have a second opinion from a different vendor to verify the vendor's reasons for the problem. The new vendor not only says exactly the same as the vendor prior to him, he states in writing that without any doubt of his experience, this problem was caused by bad materials and incorrect installation of the part. He felt that AHS should be responsible to repair the shower.

I called AHS immediately and they tell me that they have to review the paperwork submitted by the first vendor before they could "possibly" repair my shower. That evening I recieve a phone call from the original vendor asking me why I was telling AHS that he incorrectly installed the part to my shower. How professional of AHS? Is this guy going to admit that he did bad work? I aksed him to contact AHS. I just want the shower to be repaired.

No phone calls from AHS for weeks. I called yesterday, 3/19/08 and speak with three different representatives. John the "supervisor" was a lost cause for any customer service. They refused to repair my shower because of the 3 year lapse of time, which is actually less than 2 years (last complaint in 2006). They feel that it would have been a problem immediately, not slowly like the 2 new vendors put in writing that did happen and could happen. I realize that this was going nowhere with this company and decided to cancel my contract asap.

The last person from their customer retention department acts like he really cares, which I knew was a joke. After my explanations, he gets back on the phone to tell me that they would pay half. I said no, if you are willing to pay half the cost then you admit that your company is in error and I should not only get my shower fixed, but refunded my $65.00 that I should not have to pay for a past repair issue.

Of course, he tells me that he is not able to accomodate me, so I requested the cancellation of my contract immediately. I ask him for the corporate office address and contact numbers and he refused to give me this information.

I have paid AHS every single month, auto debited for over 6 years. The saddest part is this repair was only going to cost AHS a whopping $250 plus my refund to have my shower repaired properly. They are the ones who chose the first vendor to repair my shower. Another 2 vendors verify the same exact reasons why my shower was leaking because of the first vendor. I have both in writing.

Now, my son is not able to take the baths that he has enjoyed for over 5 years. He asks me everyday since the shower started to leak, why he can't take baths anymore. I had to pay someone to restain and paint my ceiling that was so damaged by the leak. That cost has sent me back $150.00 that I think AHS should be responsible for as well including repairing my shower and refunding my $65.00.

I think that this warranty company has done so much damage to so many other people around the United States. Why can't we do a class action law suit? Their policies and procedures are not condusive to their customers. There needs to be changes with these warranty companies. I hope that more of AHS customers have contacted their local Better Business Bureau, State Consumer Affairs and local newspapers to expose their terrible service they provide, so that others like us will not pay for their services. I know this is my mission to expose them. Luckily, our local paper The Orlando Sentinel, is very willing to expose their practices. I will make sure 100 percent that people will know they are not a good company to do business with any longer.
