My fiance just received a letter and a card in the mail yesterday from this "CCA" and the card included had the statue of liberty's face on it and it said "First National Card".
First of all, my fiance's credit has been destroyed by his ex-wife so it was strange that he would be receiving any kind of credit card (especially when it was not requested) stating that he was already approved. Since my fiance is trying to re-build his credit, he thought that he would check it out and give these people a call.
Well, when he called, the woman on the phone asked him for his approval number. When he told the woman that he just wanted to ask a couple of questions first before he committed to anything, she kept insisting that she could not do anything until he gave her some information first. He complied (unfortunately) and it seemed as though he could not get any information out of the woman on the other end of the line. He asked for a website, what their prices are like and other general questions. The woman told him that there was no website, that they were strictly a catalog company and stated that she could not send us a catalog until he signed up as they cost $100 to produce each one! The representative of the company was also insistent on getting more personal information. She managed to get my fiance's social security number out of him (which worries me terribly) and she kept insisting on obtaining bank information. Due to my fiance's ex-wife, he has no personal bank accounts, so the only one that he has any sort of access to is mine. The woman on the other end of the line was informed of this and kept pressuring him to divulge my personal bank information to her. (As I work for a well respected, nationally known financial institution, I know that it is illegal for them to request and/or obtain my personal information - banking or otherwise from any other party other than myself per the current privacy act unless they have previously obtained permission from me - which of course, they do not have). When my fiance stated that he would have to have her speak to me, the woman was able to "magically" raise his credit limit from $6,500 to $8,500! My fiance told her that he would have to call her back after I refused to get on the line with the woman from CCA and he was told that if the call was disconnected in any way that all of his information would be lost.
Bottom line, there was no way that this company was going to get any of my personal info out of me. They were very intent on getting personal info, yet could not provide any clear-cut answers to simple questions. Also, they were willing to try to obtain personal banking information about me through my fiance ILLEGALLY without them first speaking to me and getting my permission.
For your own sake, do not call or give these people your personal info!
