Spectra Financial Benefits
Credit Card Scam

On 1-31-05 we recieved a phone call from Spectra Financial Benefits, stateing that my fiance' had been approved for a "mastercard" with a credit limit of $2000.00,0%apr for 3yrs, and then 4.9% thereafter, no monthly fees or annual fees for the life of the card, no fees what-so-ever! This card supposedly issued by a USA bank, so my fiance' agreed for a fee (1 time only) of $249.00, the card to be recieved within 15-25 days. He gave them all of his personal information, includeing name, ss#, DOB, drivers license #, (IDENTITY THEFT POSSIBILITIES) as well as all of our bank information except a check #. The next day out of obvious concern i called the number given to us for customer service, and was told then that they have to solicite banks for a credit card, but it was gaurenteed that he would recieve a card! That afternoon i started researching and found that the BBB was investigating them and that there was not enough information to give a report, at that point i had my fiance call them to cancel the withdraw from our account, they refused (this 2 days before the withdraw was to take place). At that point we contacted our bank who advised us to place a stop pmt and possibly close and reopen a new checking account because there was no ck# authorized that leaves us open to them entering our account in several different ways several times, although we followed the banks advise, on 1-3-05 spectra withdrew the money. The bank has put the $ back in our account but, still no gaurantee that they will not be able to get the money, the bank has requested any info that we can find to prove the possibllity of a scam so they can better fight this so-called company, thanks to the other report on spectra financial, we have the proof we need. This company needs to be stopped!!! This has caused us stress, bounce fees, and negative marks with the bank, (only by computer which they are trying to fix), and as if that is not enough my fiance will be reporting to the credit reporting agencies, "IDENTITY THEFT ALERT" in order to protect him from unautorized use of his personal information. I guess the lesson learned is the old saying "IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE THAN IT IS"
