America's Chice Reader's Service
False claims and misleading information

This began with a phone call from an unknown call, which repeatedly called several times a day for about a week. I finally answered to to find out who it was and it was American Reader, though at the time they gave me a different name of their company. The fast talking lady told me I won a 1000 dollar shopping spree online. And my only charge was a monthly fee for two magazines. For some reason she did not ask for my credit card information but about a miniutelater her supervisor called and then asked how she did because she was new. He then stated that my only charge would be taken from me either through checks, money, or credit card in about a month. Both of these callers were very fast talkers and confused me to the point of just telling them my credit card number, which became a huge mistake. I also asked the supervisor if it was possible to cancel and he said it was. They were to send a package of all of this in writing as well as 1000 dollar shopping spree.

I then realized that all of this sounded really fishy and decided to close my cancel my credit card. American Reader called me on average fifteen times a day probably because of my issue with my card. Another red flag that this business is a joke. So I called my bank to see if any pending transactions were being processed and turns out America's Reader charged me the day I was off the phone with them (recall I was told i wouldn't be charged till 2 months had pass) I then decided to call America's Reader, I had to find out what their real name of business was from my bank transaction, to cancel this crap. They were very rude and said I had a two year contract with them (never stated over the phone previously) It was impossible to cancel my account and they were recording everything I said to prove me wrong.

I received the package in the mail saying all the details of what I signed up for. Here is a quote from the letter, "This program does not involve a contract or an extension of credit, but rather a verbal agreement." But apparently it also stated I could cancel 5 days after receiving this in writing. I also was signed up for 5 YEARS for 4 of 5 magazines and none of this was mentioned over the phone.in addition to this the 1000 shopping spree was just a form to fill out to get that (of coarse giving your credit card info again! And a service fee for every item you bought on the spree!) I finally decided to send a complain through e-mail that if I was not allowed to cancel I would take further action. I received another call and said all my transactions had been credited. So I guess I made enough noise to finally get my name off of this joke.

It remains to be seen if they really have canceled my account but I advise anyone who receives a call saying they won a 1000 dollar shopping spree online to JUST HANG UP. You did not win anything and will be paying 40 dollars a month for magazines you might not ever receive!
