A representative from this company came to our door later in the evening on the Friday after Thanksgiving. He did not state his name or the company he was from. He was wearing a badge and Univeral hat. He claimed he was in our area to see if we would qualify for lower gas rates. He was very general in his statements, and seemed nervous about the questions we asked.
He said he would need to see a copy of our bill to see if we would qualify. When we questioned that, he stumbled over his words and couldn't give a clear answer on why that was. We pushed for more information on what he was doing on our street, when he could clearly find our names and addresses online or in the phone book. Again, he had no clear answer. We told him we weren't interested, and he left.
We watched him leave, on foot, walking up our street. He looked around as he walked. A few minutes later, we drove around our neighborhood. We saw no company vehicle or van that he would've driven. We felt pretty sure this was a scam, and research online confirmed that. Watch out for this, and never give out personal information to complete strangers!
