I needed to rent a moving truck for a very important move, naturally, I choose Uhaul. I reserved one online and picked it up the Friday I needed it.
When I got to the facility I was told that the estimate was $100, that was fine. I was sure it wasn't going to end up being that much. I had my husband follow me in our car, and we parked the Uhaul around the corner from my Mother's apartment. We made sure all of the doors were secure and that all of the lights were off.
We then noticed that the right front tire was flat. I called and let the man know about it. I explained to him that I would not be able to bring it back because I would then be late for work. He said it was fine, and that he would make a note of it.
Later that night when I got off of work I drove to go pick it up. Low and behold, it would not start. Of course I left all of the numbers at home in my paperwork. Therefore I could not call the emergency line.
It was raining and cold. I had to double park my car on a busy street in order to jump the Uhaul. It gets worse.
I then parked by car and drove around in front of my Mother's place. We began to load the truck. It took us all of 1 hour to get everything on it. I got back in and tried to start it.
I then had to jump it, again. Finally, we got back to my house where my friends and I moved everything in. My best friend and I then went to the gas station and put $80.11 into the tank. I figured it was a bit much. The man told me to make sure i filled the tank back up, fine.
I then returned the truck and put the keys in the key drop with a note detailing my eventful rental. I called the Uhaul place early the next morning, the man told me I was being charged 65.29 for the rental. I expalined to him what happened, he than gave me the customer service number and told me that I would have to take it up with them.
I called and they gave me the run around for a week and a half. Finally, I was told that since the move was completed all I could do was get $30 in coupons. I told the lady it wasn't good enough and she then hung up on me.
Ordinarily, I would've just laughed off the faulty rental but this was no ordinary situation. My mother was leaving her abusive husband. The truck delayed us over and hour.By time we finally got out of the area, he was due to be home in 15 minutes.
I have never in my life dealt with such horrible customer service. I will never use Uhaul again. I advise anyone who desires to be treated with respect to never use this morally currupt company!
