This report does not base on one isolated incident, but rather several unprofessional and bad services over the course of many years dealing with UPS.
I never ship using UPS, but online retailers and Ebayer sellers use them to ship their products, so I have to bear their unreliable service from time to time. Years ago I ordered a pair of shoes, and I made a note of their delivery date with the tracking number. I happen to be off work on that date, and I was home all day. Guess what? UPS never came, and when I logged in with the tracking number, they posted that the packaged was "delivered". Fortunately I was dealing with a reputable Ebay seller, and they refunded my money. But it is frustrating to see how a global company like UPS choked and screwing up the retail economy.
I have several more incidents that involves UPS not ringing my door bell at all when they deliver. They just leave packages right in front of my front gate for everyone to see. And when they do announce their presence, they look like they are in such a hurry to dump the package. I live in those typical San Francisco building where your front door is located on the second floor.in order to open the front gate, I have to walk down a flight of steps. One time I answered the door, the UPS guy just said "I'm going to leave it here, yeah?" What is your flipping hurry that you cannot wait for me to run down a flight of stairs to receive the package in person?
Today I'm expecting an important package, worth roughly $600. Again I'm at home all day. I really have high hopes that maybe the UPS guy might just ring my door bell impatiently, yell out something like "It's by the gate" while I sprint down the stairs. So when I sensed the truck, I looked out the window. Sure enough, the brown vehicle is right outside my house. Since I heard no doorbell yet, I though maybe I just have enough time to run downstairs for the package in person after all.
And you know what, just as I was descending, I heard the truck took off. I check my front entry, including the surrounding area, there's no sign of my package anywhere. Could it be the UPS guy was just delivering something for my neighbor across the street? I waited a while more, hoping that maybe the UPS guy might figured out he missed one delivery on this street. Later I check online with the tracking number, my heart sank as shipment status posted as "delivered".

PS: If you are retailer or ebay seller, please do not use UPS as your shipping provider. You will save yourself many headaches from disgruntled customers. If you take pride in your products and service, please DO NOT USE UPS for your shipping needs.
