I am a well-educated, professional manager trying to step to the next level in my career. I have had difficulty finding the right "fit, " so I turned to a "professional" resume service to help. After searching through samples from several different companies and finding what I thought was an impartial rating page, I chose RPW and paid $115 (more than others, but again, I thought I was getting the best).
When I got my rewritten resume a week later, I was surprised to find that they had simply cut and pasted the resume I sent them, added several grammatical errors, and used several nonsensical words and phrases. To make a long story short, any sixth-grade English teacher would be appauled.
I was extremely distraught and called the company immediately to demand a refund. They offered to have their "head writer' redo it for free, but I couldn't take the chance of having another person do shotty work as I had an interview the next day.
They said that I would only get 70% of my money back because I had signed a contract with they to this effect. Having errors in content corrected after a first draft is one thing, but if people in their employ don't even have a basic grasp of the language, the process of resume development becomes a little more burdening.
I am not claiming that they did anything illegal as I did sign a contract, but when paying $115 to a contractor a certain level of professionalism should be expected. Just realize that the 100% guarantee on their website is a 70% guarantee. The other 30% goes to pay for the boiler room full of "writers" that are recent graduates of an English as a Second Language class.
