Overchraged - delivered our furniture 3 weeks after promised date - damaged / lost goods

Although it is too late for us to go with a different moving company, I hope those who read this will reconsider SECURITY MOVERS

Brenda was great to speak with while arranging our move—perhaps it was because she spoke English. As we came to find out, noone else did there.

The problems started the day of our move. The movers valled to ask if they could come load up our furniture early. We had no problem with this since they assured us our furniture would arrive at our new location even earlier than expected. We moved a 2 bedroom apartment and were quoted at $2300. However, this was not the case.

The movers informed us on the morning of our move that certian items could not be shipped as were packaged and CHARGED US over $200 extra to pack things of ours. When they had finished packing - the 3 men requested tips, which I thought to be very unprofessional. He then quoted us at $3200 for the amount of furniture we had, claminig that this furniture was "heavier" than most furniture... Because we did not want to "overpay", my fiance requested tah teh be allowed to follwo the truck to a weight station in Connecticut to determine the correct weight.

Much to our shock and dismay, once at the weight station we were toold that the price of our move would be nearly $4500.. DOUBLE what we were quoted. As if that isn't bad enough... We requested our furniture be picked up 2 weeks prior to our move across country so that our furniture would be ther ewhen we arrived, which the driver assured us it would be. We were given a number to contact between 5-7 days before we were to arrive in California to schedule an exact tiem the movers would arrive.

We called 5 days before our arrival in California and we told our things had NOT EVEN LEFT NEW JERSEY, and that no drivers were available. MInd you, both my fiance and I spoke with GREG, who by far was the most unprofessional individual with such a language barrier it made it impossible to get through to him. He hung up on my fiance several times and did nothing but talk over us and tell us that WE MISUNDERSTOOD the information regarding the arrival of our furniture. He told us to call back the following and get an estimated arrival date of our furniture.

We arrived to a furniture-less apartment in California on July 1. Our furniture did not even ship until 3 days later. We were todl it would take 5-7 days to reach California. However, when we called the driver 5 days later, he extended our wait for at least another 5 days. Further calls to the driver to get updated informaiton went unanswered unti lwe discovered that the cell phone had been disconnected. We tried to get in touch with Brenda or Gregory, who kept promising to "call us back" with information. We hounded them for severla days until we were able to get an updated phone number.

At this point it had been 10 says since we moved out to California and our furniture should have been there. On July 10th, called the driver to see what the holdup was, only to have the driversay that his truck broke down and it would be at least another 2-3 days while they fixed the truck. WHY DID NOONE CALL US TO TELL US THIS?

2 days go by and we cal lthe driver again, whose cell phone ahs been disconnected. We called Greg and he seemed oblivious to the problem, but said he would see what was going on and that he would give us a "discount".

After calling him back, because he never returned our calls, he told us the truck was not repairable and that the yahd to "outsource" our job meaning they had to rent another truck. Again, our furniture would be delayed. Nealy 15 days later, we finally received our furniture.

Upon delivery, the driver said he would not unlaod without payment in full, which we were not prepared to do, based on all the trouble we had thus far. However, he treatened to leave with our stuff if we did not pay in full. Not only did they charge us $75 for each flight of stairs they had to go up (3 in total), they charged us an additional $75 because they "said" the distance between the truck and the stairs were more than 50 feet. What kind of bogus line is that? Also, the driver had no knowledge of any "dsiscount" that we were to receive.

We had to get a hold of Greg, which took 20 minutes, only to get a $125 discount for all the trouble and aggravation!

I went through ever box as it was unloaded, determining if anything was broken or damanged. Unfortunaltey, they "forgot" to put a $300 snowboard on the truck and had no idea where it was. It was also discovered that 2 out of our 4 tennis rackets ahd been removed from their bag and were nowhere to be found. The same goes for a paintball gun, that, when it left our home boxed and taped shut. The condition of the box when it arrived was cimpletly torn and ripped.

They damaged all our our lage plastic bins with clothes in them and it looked as if every box of our things ahd been thrown around as all had some sort of damage to them.

Lastly, and worst of all, a 30 inch $700 computer moniter was dropped and had broken. The driver agreed to sign off on the inventory list where we included details about the damage, however we didn't expect to receive much from this company.

As others have reported, the drivers did more smoking and talking on their cells phones than actually moving, and then expected a lucrative tip. I think not. NOT TO mention their terrible odor of stale smoke that they left lingering in our new home. Absolutely disgusting.

Once we called Brenda to file a claim, she told us she would send paperwork to fill out. It was only after reading the fine print, that we decided not to go throgh with the clain.insured at $. 60/lb, the $700 comouter moniter which weighed less than 20lbs would harldy have been worth it - not to mention that once you file a claim, all damaged property becomes THEIR property. I think I've given them enough of my things!

They are still trying to "locate" the missing items, but my fiance and I are not holding out breath.
I wish we had seen these reviews before we had moved. It would have saved us the aggravation.
