Century 1 Movers
Price higer than initially stated, Move took much longer than state in contract, Would not return phone calls

I initially booked my move with Budget Van Lines, who apparently contracted my move out to Century 1 Movers from Chicago to Granada Hills, CA (a suburb of Los Angeles); I did not realize at the time but they were a broker who put out my shipment and Century 1 bid on my move.

When Century 1 Movers arrived, they were quick to load all of my things onto their truck; only after my things were in their possession did they come back in to have me sign all of the paperwork. I was charged an additional $150 than what Budget Van Lines initially had stated; I had discussed my move with Budget Van Lines (after they received my itinerary) that I would have additional boxes to move, which you told me would be fine as my total weight was below the minimum weight level (the minimum weight and price companies charge). Century 1 charged me an additional ~$150 as they said my boxes were not on the itinerary. I tried arguing to no avail and they had already loaded my furniture onto the truck and so I was unable to make any other decision at that time.

When my furniture was picked up, I was given multiple contracts to sign by Century 1 Movers so I had a written and signed agreement with them as well, in addition to my one with Budget. I was told I would receive my furniture in 7-10 days by the driver; after 2 weeks had passed, I called Century 1 and they said it would be there in a few days. The called a couple days later and said my furniture would be arriving the next day. My furniture never arrived. I called them again and they said there was some family issue with the driver and that my furniture was in Las Vegas awaiting another transport.

I looked back at my contract and it stipulated that they actually had 21 business days to deliver my things to my drop-off location; after reading this I realized I did not have much of an argument despite being told my furniture would arrive much sooner. I have called Century 1 Movers every several days to find out the status of my furniture and I have been told various stories by them repeatedly, including maintenance problems, a sick daughter of a driver, etc.

Frustratingly, I have only been able to speak with the secretary Belle and every time I ask to speak with one of the managers I am told that he is busy. The one day the secretary said he tried calling me and I did not pick up, however I did not have a missed call from them and I did not have a voicemail. I have been asking for 2 weeks to talk to a manager, and they have not had him call me despite my repeated phone calls.

Not surprisingly, today is business day 28 of my move, which is beyond the maximum number of days stipulated in my contract (which stated they had 21 business days maximum). I have called them daily for the past week and they keep blowing me off. I finally mentioned filing a lawsuit and contacting the Better Business Bureau when I was told that my furniture would be arriving today. I asked for some compensation for them breaking my contract, but they refuse to even talk to me. The secretary told me that I have to pay in full on arrival, and that only then can I file a claim for partial refund. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how that claim will be decided.

At this point, I am very frustrated with this moving experience and would just like my things! I really just want my things and for them to not be able to do this to anyone else.
