Charter send me to collections for made up bogus $30.00 charge ripoff

Charter has sent me to collections for a $30.00 charge which was bogus in the first place. I received the phone call from ACS Collections yesterday afternoon and I am currently still a charter customer who pays on time and my account isn't even past due.

The first time I spotted the charge on my bill was in April for $39.75, and it was labeled "Service Call". So I immediately called Charter and I was told that it was a mistake and would be taken off my account immediately. May's bill arrived and the charge was still there, so I called Charter again, the rep told me the previous person did not remove it correctly but she would do it right for me.

June's bill arrived and the charge was still there, only this time it was posted as 'past due amt.' with late fees. Immediately called Charter again the rep was very apologetic and said the last rep did not remove it correctly but he would do it (sound familiar?). July rolls around and I start getting calls from Charter saying my bill was past due and my service would be shut off.

So I called Charter because my bill was not past due or even close to due. Charter told me that it was being caused by the $39.75! I was then told it would be corrected immediatly and that I was not to worry. 2 Days Later - my cable was Shut Off. I called Charter and THEN they told me that if I would only pay $33.00 that day, it would end the problem forever!

I tried to reason with the rep because I didn't owe $33.00 and she said it was caused by an accounting error making it LOOK like I had a past due balance. After going round and round with her for 15 minutes, because this was, after all, not my problem if they had accntg errors, I asled to speak to a supervisor.

After holding for 30 minutes, I got someone name Allan, a woman, on the line. I read her the riot act about the situation and told her that I wanted it corrected. I told her that it was Charters fault and I as a consumer should not have to make so many phone calls to get something corrected, and how unhappy I was, I wanted the cable restored that moment.

Well Allan, assured me that all would be corrected and it would never be a problem again, ever. NOW I am in collections over this $39.75 that I never owed in the first place. And I have to wonder A) how many people never see the $39.75 and just pay it. B) How many people get tired of all this hassle and just pay it. C) How many people get really sick when they get a collections call and JUST Pay It!??

Charter is ripping so many people off with this, and I am just thier newest victim. I have no idea how to get out of this spin cycle.
