Five Star Van Lines
Breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealings. Ripoff

I was given a bid to move my belongings from Washington State to Nevada. A bid was given by Budget Van lines - 244 Fifth Avenue #2501, New York, NY 10001-1-800-611-6001. I had previously received a bid by another reputable moving company who came to my home and look everything over and gave a written bid to me. Their price seemed a bit high so I went online to see if I could find a lower priced moving company.

I gave Budget Van lines all of the inventory information that the other company had given me for the bid they had given me. Budget Van Lines was about $2000 lower which made the bid $2160.00. So I decided to go with them. After accepting their bid, I was contacted by a company that was subcontracted by Budget Van Lines - that is Five Star Van Lines.

I was contacted 1 day before the move and advised I needed to have 50% down in cash when they arrived to start loading their truck and the balance paid on delivery in Nevada. I gave them their cash down payment and they commenced loading the truck. About 1/2 way through the loading the movers advised me that the bid they gave me was for the amount they had already loaded and to finish loading the truck the bid was going to go up per square foot. They couldn't tell me how much until they were done with the loading.

I really didn't think it could be that much more than what was originally bid so I told them to go ahead. When the truck was loaded, according to the square footage the balance due upon delivery in Nevada was now $3446.00. And needless to say, I was shocked, distressed and very unhappy.

I paid them the balance owed upon delivery in the form of cashiers check. I did consult an attorney and he said I only had 1/4 of a leg to stand and the attorney fees to take on this case would be well more than I was asking for compensation. And since I consulted an attorney, the Better Business Bureau wouldn't even listen to my plea at all.

I did send photos of my damaged belongings when delivered and a letter to Five Star Van Lines by certified, return receipt United Postal Service - about a month the letter came back to me and said - attempted delivery with nobody there and then nobody picked up the letter at the Post office.
