We presently rent a 50 inch LCD T.V. From Rent-a-Center. When we opened the account a month and a half ago we paid a full month ahead and on the 10th of this month started paying by the week. We made a cash payment last week on monday, and again on monday this week. On tuesday, my husband gets a call while he's at work on our cell phone from a girl that works there telling us that we are 10 days behind. He tries to explain to her that there must be a mix-up because we had been in just the day before to make a payment. She then proceeded to give the phone to her manager who first said that if we made a payment that day and turn the tv in plus another payment on saturday for the next week they would give the tv back and we would be okay.
My husband said no, we had already made our payments on time, and we will NOT pay more and we WILL NOT give back a tv that we have been paying diligently on! The manager then threatened to have my husband arrested and ranted with foul language. The manager (knowing that my husband was at work) then came by the house attempting to repo the tv. I (of course) said no and that he'd have to talk to my husband about it and shut the door in his face. I then wrote a long complaint to their corporate office explaining the problem and the manager's rude and unprofessional behavior. I do not take harassment well, and ESPECIALLY when I did nothing wrong! I talked to a stand-in district manager today (their dm was on vacation) and explained what the problem was. My husband described the girl that took the payment and the dm asked to call me back. 5 minutes later he calls back and said that he talked to the employees and they said they never saw my husband. WELL DUH! They are scamming us, do you think they're going to admit that we were in there to make a payment?! Because we couldnt find the receipt anywhere, I asked him if he had security cameras. He said yes. I requested that he look at them and clearly see my husband make a payment the past monday.
HE REFUSED! He won't let us continue making our payments and plans on trying to repo the tv. You would think that with the possibility of an employee stealing money from their company they would be prompted to investigate. I let him know before hanging up that I plan on having letting the public know of their scamming ways. NOT only that, but I plan on seeking legal advice and pressing charges! I am LIVID about the mis-treatment that I have received from this place. They have already called my family (that we listed as references), although they know exactly where we live and our phone number. If I gave the tv back, they would keep it and either make us start completely over on our lease (we'd lose the money we've already put into it) or defer us completely and we'd never have our tv back! It's a HUGE scam! The public needs to know: DONT EVER RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!
