I received a phone call from my fiancee, who is unfortunately, is a Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio jail. He is unable to get through on our landline, so I got a prepaid credit card and borrowed my sister's cellphone. Upon answering the call, I was told I have a collect call from Legacy from Cuyahoga Falls Jail (The phone is in his cell) and asked for a credit card number. Before I gave them the information, I asked what the rate would be and was told it was $4.99 for the first 5 minutes, and $. 30 for each additional minute. At the end of my call, the time was less than 14 minutes, including time spent with the operator. I checked the balance of the card online and it showed a $25.00 charge for that call! I tried to call someone and was given the runaround and told to call back during normal business hours and talk to the billing department. I then looked them up online and found this site.
My call came from a CITY FACILITY. Using Legacy is the only means of calling out and my city officials chose a company known to be fraudulent to subcontract their phone service to! Who would have known I would have got scammed through the Police Department. I have sent an email to my local news station and plan on contacting the Mayor's office in the morning. It stinks to get ripped off at a public payphone, but from a city building?
