I used to work for a shipping company, so I do know how to package items. I sold on Ebay an antique parlor heater. Packaged nice and adequately. Cast iron and brass with original bricquettes. Lovely piece. The clerk Eric at UPS in Brunswick, asked me if I wanted to insure it. I said yes and paid the extra amount over the original $100. Signed the form and left.
A week or so later, the buyer in Canada sent me an email with the pictures of the heater destroyed in tiny pieces. SO, I contacted Ms. Bright, she would not return my calls or letters. I went to the UPS 4 times and each time the clerk was there and told me to submit pictures, report and all that I did do. No word from the owner, it is a franchise, I found out later.
So, I finally got a small claims court, and she replied to that. Saying I signed the little yellow form. Which I did, without reading the entirety, as there were 8 people behind me in line. Well, the fine print says we do NOT INSURE while in transit. So, actually the package was insure while I was standing there ONLY. The parlor heater was completely destroyed in pieces, the pictures were worth a thousand words. So, I lost in court, I do not know why. I think because the county gets more revenue from her company than they do from me—go figure. Love our justice system!
