Before I ever considered doing business with this company, the first thing I asked them was whether or not they could fly the puppy into my town through my local airport. The nearest major city is Seattle so I asked "Can you guys fly the puppy here to my town or would I have to drive over to Seattle to pick up the puppy?" I was assured that they could fly the puppy to my town. This was the whole point of buying a puppy online as opposed to driving and picking one up, so I wouldn't have to make a roadtrip to find a dog. After I was told the dog could be flown to my town, I decided to go for it and buy a puppy through them. We paid $450 through Paypal. It was all down hill from there.
After the payment was recieved, we were informed that the payment had been recieved and a flight would be booked in 1 or 2 days.
After a week went by, we got a little worried. I thought it was completely unacceptabe to say a flight would be booked in 1 or 2 days & then get no contact from the breeder whatsoever for a week, not even a phone call or email. From this point I began hounding the company with voicemessages and emails. After a couple days and still no response, we contacted the Sheriff's Department in their county. He informed me that I was the second person to call the Sheriff's Department having the same problem with Petpanions/Jasco Kennels that week! He went out to the breeders house to talk with him about it.
The breeder was short tempered and got an attitued with the Deputy. The Deputy's hands were tied because they had technically not done anything illegal yet so he said we would be best off for the time being to contact the Better Business Bureau of Missouri and the Attorney General's Office of Missouri. We filed complaints with both.
We continued with the phone calls to Petpanions with no response still. Finally after weeks of no contact and no retuned calls or emails, Petpanions sends an email (the night before Thanksgiving) saying that our dog would arrive at the SeaTac airport (Seattle-Tacoma) at 7:45 pm. They didn't even tell us that he was coming until after he was already on the plane! Instead of flying to my town here locally (like they promised) they flew him to Seattle (the exact thing I was making sure they weren't going to do before I bought the puppy). Anyways, I recieved notice that the dog was coming Via e-mail at 2:00 pm, and he was scheduled to arrive in Seattle at 7:45 pm. That only left me 5 hours and 45 minutes to cancel my plans (day before Thanksgiving) and drive to Seattle. Seattle is a 3 hour drive from where I live and over 150 miles, not to mention there was snow on the mountain pass which made it even longer. If I knew I was going to have to drive to Seattle to pick up my puppy, I would have found a breeder in Seattle!!! This was the whole point of buying a puppy online! I cannot believe the breeder only gave me 5 hours and 45 minutes notice and ONLY contacted me Via email on the day before Thanksgiving. It was a miracle that I even checked my email during that time period! Come to find out after we arrive at the airport, the breeder gave us the wrong flight number so it took us forever to find out where to go at the airport. Even the airport information center couldnt tell us where to go, based off the informaiton that the breeder gave us. We finally found out where to go and got the puppy. We had to drive back home that night through a snow storm. Overall our experience was horrible with this company.
I feel fortunate that we even got the puppy. The moral of this story, do research on any online company before you buy a dog (or anything else) There are companies that will hold your money and won't give it to the breeder until AFTER you recieve the animal.in hind-sight, this is the route I would have gone (but with a different company other than Petpanions).
