Our carpet cleaner quit. I pulled it apart and tested the motor, one of the windings was burned out. I went to a couple of places and they said that Cathey's would have the motor. I stopped by during my lunch break and they had it in stock. I bought the motor and went back to work.
When I got home in the evening I pulled the parts out of the closet. A box that was stacked next to the parts had fallen over and broke the top cover of the cleaner. Since the plastic was cracked, the cleaner could not be reassembled.
I took the motor back the next day (less than 24 hours later) and told them what had happened. They informed me they don't accept returns, but if I would like to apply the credit to a cleaner they had in stock I could do that. I looked at what they had and everything was $80 or more over what I could purchase elsewhere. I asked what other options I had and they said I could keep the motor. I thought I should check with the wife to see what her prefrence was. She wasn't inclined to give them anymore money.
I went back (for the third time) to tell them we would take the motor back. They said they weren't sure if they still had it. He went in the back and came out with the motor.
