I was looking for a wedding photographer and after speaking with and meeting with Dave Crockett, I thought he would do a great job and his prices were fantastic, considering what I was getting. He said he has a degree in graphic design as well as photography so his digital albums would be better than others in the business. His samples were good, so I went along with it.
The most important aspect of my wedding package was that I would receive all of my digital negatives on a CD in high quality so that I could print out any, and as many, pictures that I wanted from my engagement session and wedding day. All of his packages stated that I would get "all digital negatives". He stated this as well at our meeting.
Unfortunately, he did not keep his word. After the engagement session (where at least a hundred picures were taken, probably more) I was given a link to his website where I could view my pictures. There were only 8 pictures! I could not believe that after all the pictures he took only 8 of them turned out. Not only that, but almost all of them did not look good! Either I or my fiance were squinting or eyes were closed. Most of the various locations/poses that we took pictures weren't even included in those 8. I asked for the rest of the pictures, but he said he only gave me the ones that turned out and met his "high quality control."
As a professional photographer, I would think he could take more than 8 good photos. I asked to have the pictures anyway, hoping that I could salvage some of them with PhotoShop, or perhaps thinking his "quality control" was too high of a standard and that I would consider the pictures to be fine by my standard. I questioned how high his quality control could be if the "good" ones had my eyes closed in them. Again, he refused to give me the pictures.
After several more e-mails reminding him that in the contract it states that I will receive ALL of my pictures, he agreed to send them. At this point, I was scared that the same situation would happen on my wedding day, so I asked what the process was to get out of the contract. Note that I did not state that I wanted to get out of the contract... Just HOW I would go about doing so. He replied that he was sorry it didn't work out for me, and that I was now out of the contract, and that he was no longer obligated to give me any pictures. Nor would he refund my $600 deposit.
Unbelievable!
He has since then, removed from his website the statement that you get "all digital negatives", so at least he did that. But bottom line is he was a liar and stole my money!
