Ripoff extortion bait and switch

I have generally had good service from Amazon.com until I fell for their "Free Shipping" scam. I ordered several items directly from them so that the shipping would be free and indeed, the shipping was. After about a week I noticed that the items, which were all marked, "Usually ships in 24 hours" had not been shipped.

I received no email warning to tell me about the delay, so I sent an email. The reply was basically extortion. They said that I had to pay $10.50 to have the items shipped now. It didn't matter that the items were in stock when I ordered, and still were. They weren't in the same fulfillment centers, I have a decent understanding of the internet and ordering (I was the general manager of a internet company that sold software.

First of all, they should have sent an email to notify me of the delay. Understand that I beleive that you shouldn't sell on the internet if you use excuses like, "We have to many customers to inform them of stuff like that."

Second of all, the problem is theirs, they should be willing to pay the extra postage to make it right.

I realise that this may seem like a small problem, but if more people stood up to them for the smaller problems, maybe we could prevent bigger more grievous scams.
