Wal-Mart violates fire codes often as well as other OSHA regulations. Leading into each holiday season approx three weeks prior to Thanksgiving Wal-mart enters it's so-called Blitz Season. This triggers a common practice which compromises the safety of workers, customers and communities.
Wal-Mart Blitz:
By filling their warehouse to capacity to the point of maze like configurations for workers or anyone entering in the receiving area. Basically if you do not work in this area during a shift you do not know how to work the maze to get out in the event of an emergency.
Merchandise if often stacked to the ceiling just below fire sprinkler systems. Above clearly marked limit lines often painted red.
This activity continues daily as trailor after trailor of merchandise continues to come in to the receiving area an replenishment product is stage for overnight stocking crew to force out onto the sales floor.
Wal-Mart Food Prep:
Often food is prepaired in Wal-Mart Supercenters in areas which violate OSHA and many local city codes. Food is handled by workers that have no hair nets, gloves, storage containers, racks and clean prep utensils.
Wal-Mart Meat Products:
Meat display counters are not cleaned or sanitized as needed. Juices from poultry, fish, beef and pork leak out of packaging and exposes anyone who comes in contact with the fluids to host of disease.
Wal-Mart Product Temperatures:
Often meat products are stocked from a cart several varities at a time. Speed is a serious issue with any meat or frozen product. Frozen products may begin to thaw and are placed into frozen bins where re-freezing causes freezer burn and poor product quality to the consumer.
Meat products may sit on a cart for periods of time which exceed the propers storage temperature allow for the beginning stages and development of harmful bacteria.
