I purchased a puppy from this shop for $1,800 plus tax. The puppy was about 12 weeks old. The puppy was described to me by the owner of the shop (Lorin) as a pedigreed Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier).
The next day, at home, the puppy became very sick. I took it to a local vet, who diagnosed it with an infectious disease. I then went to the shop, and spoke with Lorin. Lorin refused to pay the vet bills and became very agitated. Subsequent trips to the vet over the next four weeks resulted in the vet changing medications twice, and being andamant that the dog was very sick. It had 4 viruses at the same time. Lorin still refused to pay the vet bills.
Eventually the dog got well. It cost $400 in vet care.
So, I asked for the papers so I could register the dog—it was pedigreed. Lorin stated that the dog was not pedigreed, that when she used the word "pedigree" she did not mean the dog was pedigreed. So I asked for information on the dogs sire and dam. Of course, no information was forthcomming.
It doesn't make sense for anyone to pay $1,800 for a non-pedigreed dog. You buy non-pedigreed dogs for $25 or $50—not $1,800!
She said that I could return the dog—but by this time I had fallen in love with the little buggar. So I couldn't do that—she would probably euthanize the dog anyway.
According to California law, I can sue her in small claims court for violation of California's puppy lemon law. However, that is a lot of hassle.
Don't buy from Lorin at the Furry Face Boutiki and Cafe in Redlands, California.
