Guard at Exit Checks Receipts and Bags of Every Customer

This is the icing on the cake, aside from all their problems with customer service. I do not know if this is a local practice; perhaps others can shed some light on this topic.

At my local Home Depot, they have a security guard at the exit checking receipts, asking to look in your bag, and taking inventory of your purchases.

There are never enough cashiers, so the lines are long. Then, when you purchase your items, you have to stand in another line to exit the store.

Is this even legal? To detain someone without probable cause? Everyone is stopped. The only profile I can see is that you are a customer. You will not be permitted to leave until you can prove your innocence.
