I have never ventured into the madness of the "Day After Christmas Shopping Day" until this unfortunate experience.
Christmas night I was perusing ads and came across an ad for Foleys department store. I noticed a sofa that I liked at a reasonable price. (http://www.foleys.com/gifts/OnlineShopping/FO? DSP=133&sb=fo_1226). The sofa was $799.00 and included a chair and an ottoman. I was very excited. I called a friend and we decided to get up early as it was only offered from 6am-10am.
So, here we go the day after Christmas doing exactly what we did not want to do and on top of everything else EARLY.
We arrive at the furniture department of Foleys. It took some time to find anyone to ask where the advertised sofa was located. Finally we found a salesperson and she rudely says "We never had it". What? Is she serious? She did not even pretend they sold out. THEY NEVER had it. To add injury to insult there was an identical sofa in green that I would have been happy with and when I asked about it she said "oh there is a slight difference-it is not the same". Right. I thought to myself do I look that stupid.
Foleys advertising of non existent merchandise as a way to gain customer activity is completely unethical. (if not illegal) Furthermore to have the salesperson not offer any alternatives, rain checks or even courtesy is beyond belief.
I will never shop at Foleys and view them as the lowest of Retailers.
In addition when I did try to call the local store-I was greeted by a ringing unanswered phone and an operator that was not local but from a call center in who knows where. This company is the polar opposite of Good Customer Service.
