On the night of Dec. 6th at around 10pm, My fianc, my business associate and myself went to 7-11 to pickup cigerettes. Now I am a 29 yr. Old Business owner here in the City of Long Beach, My fianc'e is an 29 yr. Old Indie Hip-Hop and R&B Recording Artist, and my business associate is a 25 yr. Old Video Director.
We all three walked into the 7-11 and there were 2 clerks one at register and the other one on the floor counting cigeretts.
There was one person in the store when we got there and then as we waited our turn to be checked out two other men, hispanic, walked in. The clerk started staring my fianc'e up and down, so I asked my fianc'e " I wonder why he's staring at you"? My fianc'e smiled, the clerk at the register started answering me in a very negative tone, telling me that he was not staring at him and what was i talking about.
I then proceeded in telling him to stop talking to me because i did not ask him a question. My fianc'e then asked the clerk for a pack of cigs and a $ 1.00 Lottery ticket. The clerk proceeded to ring up the cigs and the lottery ticket, then suddenly the clerk on the floor jumped up and yelled at the other clerk in a foriegn language. My fiance looked at me and looked back at the clerk and asked was there a problem. The clerk that jumped up took the lottery ticket and the cigs and started to ring them up his self then he took back the lottery ticket without any explanation.
When I asked why we couldnt buy the lottery ticket he said no not yet then we just stood there of course by this time the store had about five other customers and I asked if we can get checked out now, he told me to SHUT UP very agressevily I then asked him to not talk to me that way. He yelled at me and told me top shut my mouth and get out of "his" store, my fiance told him "hey man watch how you talk to my wife", and the clerk grabbed the fone and said im calling the police get out of my store.
Now let me remind you we, meaning my fiance and myself are still remaining calm waiting for the lottery ticket we had now already had paid for. After he said he was calling the cops I told him i had the direct number to the watch commader if he needed it. He bacame angrier and yelled a racial remark about ni*ers, thats when I advised him to watch his verbage becasue he was dealing with a business owner and I was not going to put up with a business in my city treating residents this way.
He then threw the lottery ticket at us and we left out into the parking lot waiting for the police, who never showed up, as we waited Hurricane (my fiance) scratched the lottery ticket and won $35.00:-)
I wrote this hoping that others will read it and come forward or speak up if these two clerks have treated you wronly, these clerks need to know that you have to treat all customers the same no matter what colr thier skin is.
Oh yeah the clerks are both older Indian men always there from sun up to sun down... Maybe that's why their so cranky, just a thought.
