CALIFORNIA VAN LINES of & movers.com ripoff moving nightmare

I experenced a moving nightmare dealing with California Van Lines when I moved from Seattle, Wa to Florida. I contacted this company thru the movers.com on the internet. They seemed to be a reliable company and I had them fax me a contract. I needed to move on a specific date but the company was not able to come until 3 days later.

Everyday I called to check on the pickup date of my things it would be moved up 1 day. When the movers finally arrived December 3rd, they knew nothing of the car I was also transporting to Florida. I called the company and the salesman Marco admitted to dropping the ball and he scrambled to get a company lined up. I had to drive my car to a drop off point about 100 miles from home. I agreed to do it because I needed to get out of town.

I was promised a delivery date of about 7 to 14 days on the furniture and 7 days on the car. I called the company when I arrived in Florida about 3 days after the furniture was picked up. I was given a date of December 15 for the arrival of my things so I took the day off of work so I could be there to meet the moving van. I called and check the night before to make sure the van would be coming in on the 15th and Lloyd the dispatcher said yes they were on schedule. I waited all day but no movers, when I called Lloyd back later that day he said they had problems and would not be there until December 18th.

I took that day off work and again no show and no call from the movers. I called and Lloyd said they had more trouble and would be there on Dec 22nd. Again no show and no call and another missed day of work. I called and was told Dec 26th. They did arrive on the 26th but at 9pm. When they arrived I looked in the van to see my things stacked up to the top of the van.

Many of the boxes were crushed and 3 sets of shelves were broken from the weight of the boxes stacked on them. My entertainment center was scratched and gouged on the top and the doors. My microwave was crushed and the glass tray inside was broken. Many of my dishes and glasses were broken including china and crystal that can not be replaced.

The movers were tossing my boxes to each other and many were dropped. I was told that the van lines would replace my broken items and that the drivers would send in a report of the damages. Also the driver stated that the just left California the previous thursday Dec 20th. I had to pay them for the delivery before they would unload the truck but I called my credit card company the next day to find that they had already run the card. I told them I had a dispute with the company and they sent me forms to complete.

I called the movers daily to find out about compensation for the damages. I spoke to Brian the manager many times and he promised me that they would take off some of the charges and Sonja the customer service rep would send me the paperwork for the damages. I spoke to Sonja on Jan 5th and she said that she had been out of the office and was catching up on the claims.

While all of this was going on I was still waiting for my car to be delivered. I was told that it was still sitting out in Washington for 2 weeks because California Van lines had not lined up anyone to move it. The place I took it was a drop off point only. I was not told this when I dropped it off. The car finally was delivered Jan 6th over a month later. I have tried repeatedly to contact anyone at California Van lines and no one will call me back and I am told that Brian and Sonja are not there or out to lunch.

I have not recieved the forms for the damages yet. MY credit card company has informed me that they can not do anything about this matter. I would like sime satisfaction or at least let others know not to use this company in the future.
