Nationwide Relocation Services - Aaa Vanlines
Ripoff, deception, wrong estimates, inaccurate dates, unavailable for questions, ALL MY PROBLEM

Contracted with this company about 6 weeks prior to move because they gave the cheapest estimate. They were very polite and helpful until about 1 week prior to moving, when they suddenly became impossible to reach. The only phone call I received the week prior to moving was one telling me that my updated furniture inventory was too extensive and my weight (and therefore price and deposit) would increase. My $700 deposit for my $1500 total suddenly jumped to a $1800 deposit for a $2800 job. This made no sense to me because I had actually sold furniture prior to this final list, but I authorized the second deposit in order to guarantee movers would show up. I was hoping for a lower bill on the delivery date.

I tried numerous times the week prior to my scheduled moving dates (Sunday and Monday) to find out when to expect the carriers. It always took at least 30 minutes to reach anyone in customer service at Nationwide, and they were rarely helpful. Most of the time I left messages that were not returned. This was the same story for the carriers (whom Nationwide finally put me in contact with 2 days prior to contracted pick-up date). This was a move from Missouri to Florida involving pets on a holiday weekend - needless to say booking hotel rooms along the way wasn't easy, nor was finding a kennel when the movers were expected to be there working. Nationwide reps, when I could reach them, continued to tell me that the movers would contact me. To date, the day of the scheduled move, the movers (AAA Vanlines) have never called me or given me one piece of paperwork. I always call them and leave messages that go unanswered.

On Friday afternoon prior to contracted date, I called the movers, miraculously reached someone, who said they would be there Saturday at 10am - a day early. I was not ready and stayed up all night to make sure everything was ready the next morning. It is Sunday at 1am and still no movers, no phone call, no new pick-up day or time. No one is available at Nationwide or AAA Vanlines to answer questions.in order to make it to Florida for closing, my husband has to rent a moving truck at the last minute on the busiest moving weekend of the year. Since we have to rent a truck now, we decided to cancel the movers. (Some of you may wonder why we contracted so close to closing if we cannot make it - Nationwide chose those dates when we told them they could not deliver prior to June 1, our close date).

My contract states that I will lose my deposit for not giving 72hrs advanced notice of cancellation. After reading numerous complaints about these companies, I think losing the deposit sounds better than losing all of my belongings. However, I would be crazy not to attempt to get back $1800 on a job never done or never explained. Has anyone else "seen the light" about these companies prior to giving them your property? Did anyone else get refunds with less than 72hrs advanced notice? Did refunds come from Nationwide or from the credit card company?
