Refuses to ensure customers get quality merchandise, ripoff, will not take back defective item

For a mother's day gift, I had bought a portable CD player from an FYE location in the Washington D.C. Area. When she got it, it did not work properly. I went back to the FYE store in the mall here where i live and they treated me so poorly that I will make sure that I myself and anyone i know will NEVER go back to one of their stores.

For starters, this was a gift, and the reciept was missing. I am not sure what happened to it but it isn't here anymore, all i wanted to do was go into the store, exchange the defective player for one that worked, and go back home and be able to give my mom the new player.

They refused to accept the exchange not just because of the reciept, but they first started to complain that the box was a different color. Same item, just a newer or older packaging, that is it. Then, to top it off, they claimed that parts were not in there when i had never recieved them in the packaged i had originially purchased.

Upon finding this out, I left they store after they refused. There were two clerks helping me out in the store. One of them was very very nice, polite, and more than willing to help me out.

The other clerk was very short, rude, and tried to accuse me of keeping parts and bringing it back after using it for a long period of time. Upon this, i was very angry and stormed out of the store.

For starters, when my mom opened the box, she took it out to find scratches all over the box. Then the cd part didn't work. What has obviously happened here is someone else had returned this player for being defective, or it was a demo that had been on a shelf for a long period of time.

I am going to talk to their Regional Manager where i am at and their store manager at this location tomorrow about this situation. The only reason i waiting is because today is Sunday, and it is most likely that no one will be there to answer.

I just wanted to post this to warn anyone out there about this before they buy anything big from FYE. Luckily this was only a $20.00 player, but what if it had been something like a $100 DVD player? I would have been screwed!
