Moved into a new house in the Chicagoland area. My spouse was approached by roving security installers with a free installation pitch...
Glaring flaws in installed system
Installed system uses hard-line telephone system. (burglars simply cut the telephone line and the whole thing is ineffective afterwards). After paying on the system for two years, I call the company, and request an alternate response system - i.E. Mobile technology solution.
Monitronics insists on payment for $500 'chip' or $500 balance of 3 year contract term
Monitronics says my current system doesn't work with mobile technology, but for a mere $500 I can have the 'chip' installed. I ask who owns the equipment in my house - they say "you do, it's paid off". They say whatever I do, I'm on the hook for a three year contract, on which, incidentally a little over $500.00 remains.
Monitronics bullies the consumer
I give notice that I immediately wish to terminate the contract, want them to remove -their equipment - which is tresspassing on my property - and take any action necessary to minimize their damages on the contract term.
*I can't imagine how "not monitoring" one system causes them any expense.*
*I disconnect my hard-line phone, change to a VOIP account.
They are unable to monitor my alarm, but continue to insist that I'm obligated to pay the remainder of the contract — even though they are unable to monitor the system!
They insist that I agreed to be (tied) to a phone carrier during the next three years at this residence - notwithstanding that I'm moving in a few weeks.
