I routinely check my bank account and discovered an electronic funds transfer for $54 for another year of Time magazine which I did not authorize. I did not receive any renewal notice in the mail and if I had I would have cancelled my subscription because we find Time boring. Upon contacting Time twice by email, I was directed to NewSub Services aka Synapse who finally agreed to credit my account the $54 after making me endure an endless series of scripted responses that were just another bait and switch. I have very little faith this credit will occur without further complaints on my part, and to make matters worse, I subscribed to Time, Home and Islands last May for $2 each through a special offer upon registering with BizRate.
I read the offer thoroughly and nowhere was their mention that subsequent years would be debited without my prior approval, only that this was an opportunity to determine if I liked the magazines I had selected from the list of those available. I have a sinking feeling that they will do the same dirty trick with the other two but I could not get their CSR to respond to that inquiry. Any suggestions?
