Synapse Group NewSub Magazine Services Unauthorized magazine subscription and charge to my credit card. Ripoff

When checking for recent activity on a credit card I am trying to cancel I found a $40.00 charge for a subscription to Money magazine.

I immediately called the 800-205-9198 number listed with the charge. I got an electronic operator and canceled the subscription with the options given. One of the options was an explanation for the charge which was the subscription was made through / with (?) one of my favorite internet sights I had recently visited.

The electronic operator then stated that the subscription would be canceled, and, I would be getting additional five months magazines free with an option to reconsider subscribing later. There was no option offered to just end everything and not hear any more about it.

I contacted Capital One demanding the charge be dismissed and asking who had authorized the charge. I am waiting to hear back from them.

In my opinion, this is a scam where the credit card charge will over looked. If you cancel the subscription, their continuing to send the magazines will be considered as your acceptance of the offer.By the time 5 months has passed you will have forgotten the scam and will be on the hook for the charges.
