Chesapeake Movers, Giant Moving And Storage
Ripoff, unprofessional

Chesapeake quoted me a price of 438.00 for 6hrs. It took Chesapeake Movers 10 hours and the price changed to $895.00 to move a three bedroom town house into a storage bin, which all they had to do was come in and move out the furniture. All boxes were packed by me and my wife, so they did not have to pack anything. They arrived to the site with 4 movers and a truck that was not big enough to accommodate the job, resulting in half of the furniture being left at the originating site.

Out of three bed rooms a living room a kitchen a basement they only completed the kitchen and basement. They left two chairs and all of the pillows and cushion from the living room.in the master bed room they left the box spring, head board, foot board rails, computer monitor, and all the clothes. The second and third bedroom they did not move one piece of furniture or clothing. They did not move anything from either bathroom and all pictures are still hanging on the wall. I have two BBQ grills a lawn mower, so everything is still left up to my wife to get out of the house. I am in the military and I am TDY to Augusta GA. So I can not be there to help finish moving my furniture. That is why I hired them in the first place.

I made the first phone call to complain around 11:00 am to speak to someone about the mover taking to many smoke breaks and doing a lot of standing around. I did not get an answer so I talked to the head guy Nicholay about the smoke breaks and the standing around because they were being paid by the hour. I asked Nicholay for the number to the supervisor and he gave me the number to the office. I told him that no one was answering and I need another number, he stated "that is the number" so I stated to him that no one answered the phone, he stated to me "today is Sunday. So I left it alone. Around 2:30 Nicholay stated to me he did not have enough room to get the rest of my things so I tried to call the office again and got the answering machine and left a message.

So by this time I went to the U haul place to see if I could get a truck to help finish the move, because I had to be back in Augusta by 1135am the next day, they did not have any trucks so I left, on my way back to the house my wife called and said that they were on their way to the storage place.

When I arrived at the storage Nicholay was in my wife face yelling at her, so I got out to find out what was going on. My wife stated to me that he was not going to unload the truck until we paid. I had given Nicholay my credit card payment at 0900 that same morning on a credit authorization sheet that I signed. So I called back to the office very upset about Nicholay holding my furniture hostage, and once again I got the answering machine. So I told Nicholay to call someone right now he made a call and from inside the truck I asked to speak to the supervisor and that is when he told me that the supervisor does not take personal calls. Since when do the supervisor not take call concernig a problem with a service that they provide. So I called the police for the first time, because things just did not seem right this was around 3:15. Officer Meyers showed up and spoke with me and then to Nicholay. Officer Meyers showed up around 4:10 pm. He ask what was the problem and ask to see the paperwork.

On the paper work the start was 0900 and the end time was written in as 615pm. Officer stated to Nicholay that it was 4:12pm not 6:15pm. Nicholay explained that was an estimate. So Officer Meyers stated to Nicholay if you finish before 6:15 are you going to refund him the difference, Nicholay stated yes. Officer Meyers told Nicholay that he could not hold my propriety if he had already been paid. I asked Nicholay when you are going to go back and get the rest of my furniture; Nicholay stated we will have to do another contract before he could get the rest of my furniture. I told Nicholay to call his supervisor. Nicholay did not respond he just started to unload the truck.

Officer Meyers stated to me and my wife that we were going have to take the company small claims court.

When the movers were unloading my furniture I noticed several damaged items so I asked Nicholay to place the damaged items to the side, Nicholay stated to me "why are you giving me such a hard time" I stated to him I am not I need to take pictures so I can file a claim.
When he got to the sectional with the recliner he grabbed it the wrong way to lift it and the chair broke so I stated to Nicholay to place it to the side so I could take a picture of the chair and he stated to me that he could fix it, so he pushed the chair back down into place. I walked over to the chair and just touched it and it fell to the side again. He kept assisting that he could fix the chair so I told him to step away from the chair and to leave it alone. He jump back in the truck and call the supervisor once again, so I asked to speak to the supervisor and he gave me the phone.

Immediately the supervisor accused me of threaten the driver, so I asked him how and where did he get his info from, and why did he not speak to me before. He told me that I need to calm down because I seemed to be upset, I told him I was upset and I was trying to explain to him what happened and if he could come down to the storage site to see what was going on. The supervisor stated "I am going to recall my driver and the truck even if he has not finished unloading your things". I told him that he could not do that because I have already paid you for the services. He stated to me "watch me" and hung up the phone.

The Montgomery County Police department had to be called out to the destination site for the second time because of threats to withhold delivery of furniture. Once the officers arrived for the second time Officer Meyers spoke to the supervisor on the phone and stated" you need to come out to this site to see what is going on they have already waisted 2hours calling and waiting on us to come out".

Officer Myers advised me to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and to take the moving company to Small Claims Court.

On Monday 21 February at 1030 I called back to the office and spoke to Jason Bickerstaff. I asked if he had received my message. I asked what time did the office open. He told me 9:00 and he had received my message, so I asked why you not returned my call. He stated to me that he had just heard the message 3 mins ago and he placed me on hold and told me that someone from customer service would call me later. Customer service Janis Wilson stated because of the message that I left on the answering machine they could not complete the move. She stated that they would send me the claims forms in the mail, and I had to do what I have to do to get the rest of my stuff moved.

Damage Resulting = Because the movers did not finish the job my wife will now have to rent an U haul truck and move the remaining furniture herself.
The movers also damaged several items, damaged the walls, and tracked mud throughout the house on the carpet. I spoke with Janis Wilson from customer service about the move and she stated to get three estimates and they will pay me. 60 cents per pound for my damaged items. One of the items was a 4 section sectional weighing about 50 pounds per section. Now that's about $30 dollars for a $2200 dollar sectional, I can no longer use. They left the legs to my sectional at my home and refused to return and get them. They also ripped the fabric on the sectional removing it off the truck. Another item was a washer valued about $300 dollar weighing maybe about 35 pounds that's about $21 dollars, a large dent was knocked into it. I have a bow flex exercise machine in which they dragged across the side walk and scratched it up trying to get it to the truck. The driver stated that the truck was parked to far away from the house. The house is about 50ft from the parking lot.

The movers demanded payment in full but had not completed the job. The movers left several items at the originating site and demanded another contract to complete the original job which would result in more money. When I asked to speak to the supervisor I was told the supervisor does not take personal calls. The supervisor never came out to the sight to checkout what was going on,

When I finally spoke to the supervisor, I was very up set by this time the Police had already been to the site once, the supervisor threatened to call the truck back in without unloading all of my furniture and hung up on me. This resulting in me calling the police out to the destinationation site for the second time and a whole lot of time being waisted.
