Scam

We ordered September 11 coins from The American Historical Society in October—using an 800 # they provided on TV.

On December 28, our bank account was charged $109.95 for an unauthorized "membership" for leisure discounts! Called the 800 # on our bank statement—their representatives at first insisted we did order the membership; they finally agreed to reimburse the "mistaken" charges—5-7 days.

We have not seen the refund. Another "mistaken" charge from MWI was made around the same time as a result of a musical CD ordered over an 800 # (in August!)—the charge was only $7.95—but again, unauthorized.

We have not seen the return on this charge either. Their website is connections123. At that connection, you discover two large websites for "MWI SCAMS"—people charged repeatedly for substantial unauthorized "mistaken" memberships—stories are recorded from 1999—no recorded resolution.

Called The American Historical Society number provided on their packing slip, and spoke to their agent, thinking they would want to know what was going on with telemarketing representing their products. She insisted the technique she called "upscaling" our service (something proffered in addition to what is being ordered) was something they routinely and legitimately offered all subscribers—and that we were "misunderstood."

Others suffered the same and more from ordering various products over 800 #s—all channelled through MWI. (MWI operates under several names.)
