Let's Move It
1 Moving & Storage has dishonest business practices! Rip-off!

I read with interest the previous entry regarding this company. Unfortunately it was posted after our move. They turned up with a truck that was too small for our needs. Similar to what happened to the other poster. This was despite a very detailed description given, in writing, to their offices. There were a great number of items that needed to be carried in my wife's car, and a friends car. Some items had to be left behind!

I had arrived at our new house ahead of my wife, to greet the movers when they arrived. My wife and I were in constant contact via cell phone. The twenty-five minute drive (MAXIMUM) from our old house to the new house took them about fifty-five minutes (remember I was paying the California mandated "double drive time").

They turned up, with their burger chain drinks in hand (they obviously stopped for lunch on my dime), and stood around whilst the driver tried to negatiate the fee - "Oh, you had more stuff than we expected, " "it's going to take another three hours just to unload, " "we need to get the billing done now so our office manager can go home for the weekend." etc. While this was going on, the crew stood about doing nothing. So they finally pro-rated their unloading time (not a good guess, as you expected...). We had to ask the "one-who-seemed-to-know-what-he-was-doing" to ask the others to not just throw around the boxes marked "VERY FRAGILE" or even "FRAGILE." Luckily, our packing skills were validated as sound!

Following the move, we found that an American Express card had gone missing from a filing cabinet. I am not directly accusing anyone, just stating the facts and timeline. It was in the cabinet before the move, it's not there anymore, and charges started to appear in the LA area, and into Nevada. American Express told us that this was not an uncommon occurrence following a move using a moving company.

Damage to furniture, we were assured, would be addressed by their manager when the office opened. Nothing of the sort happened. We still have some boxes to open. I wonder what will be found missing. This company is absolutely terrible. Please think twice before you use them. Their estimate may look appealing, but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, plus they'll find a way to make the estimate turn into a very large amount of money indeed.
