My sister had to send packages to all the children in the family in agreement to our parent's settlement of their estate. Every member of the family received boxes from ups with the contents totally destroyed.in mine was a 100 year-old cut lead crystal glass pitcher which was brought over from germany in the early 1900's. The package was insured for $500.00. When i filed the claim, ups disregarded me altogether because i was not the shipper. They repeatedly sent my sister claim form after claim form-same info in every one. 2 months after ups picked up the damaged pitcher, and who knows what they did with it, they requested an appraisal. If they did not get an appraisal they would not pay on the claim. How were we to get an appraisal on an item ups took away from us? I called attorneys, tv stations, bbb and started spreading the word about the way ups wiggles out of filing claims.in another 5/6 box shipment there were about 6 items broken and according to ups they would not pay the $100 per box insurance because the packaging was not according to their standards. Now get this, a ups agent told my sister over the phone how to pack the boxes!!! Bubble wrap was used. Ups told my sister that the pieces had to be separated by corrigated cardboard and that she should have known this if she looked up their packing policies on the internet. My sister doesn't have access to the net. I looked it up and there was nothing stating exactly how to package such an item. Ups gave a list of packing materials that could be used. It took my swearing, yelling, screaming, threatening and having attorneys, tv stations and others contact ups before ups finally paid the claim. Do yourself a big favor and find another source to ship your items. Ups will not honor any insurance claim whether it is the standard automatic $100 or whether to pay for additional coverage. Be prepared for a big fight if you ship via ups and end up with damaged goods.
