Salesman Lied to My Face - Tricked into signing the Contract

Stopped by the LS booth at the Cache County Fair a year ago because was interested in finding some religious videos for kids. Salesman threw all kinds of free material at me - almost as an attempt to distract me from asking probing questions.

The only movies that I was really interested in where those on the Book of Mormon so in our discussions (and I was very clear in verifying this several times) I asked if I could cancel the movies after the BofM series was over without any penalties or problems. He (and I wish I still had his name - this year he was not at the fair) assured me that I could cancel at anytime without any problems. So I signed up for the videos to come to my house, taking the load of free stuff he had thrown at me.

Now, I realize and I understand (NOW) that in the fine print of the contracts I signed it obligates me to pay back a percentage of the whole contract (500.00 in my case) if I drop out. But as he rushed me through the process, all the while assuring me that I could cancel without any consequences, it is easy to see how one would not take the time to read the fine print. Nor is it ethical business practices by the salesman to lie and trick me into signing by creating an enviornment where I had no time to check and would have felt uncomfortable doing so.

Make no mistake these slippery salesman will do anything to get the sale and Living Scriptures is completely fine with that mentality. When I called over the shock I recieved when I went to cancel, I explained to the customer service rep that I had been told that I could cancel at any time. She mockingly said, "You CAN cancel at anytime. You just have to pay the fee of $500.00 to do so!"

On another phone call to get this resolved the rep said, "I have been getting alot of this." So lying salesmen is nothing new and nothing the company is worried about. Once I found out this purchase was affecting my credit - it shows as a loan I took out! - and is also something that I was not told - I paid the 500.00 to get out of the contract and am working throught the Better Business Bureau but I have little hope of anything going through because they are going to wave the contract in everyones face.

But I repeat, obtaining a contract through deceitfull means, although perhaps legally binding is completely unethical, is a total ripoff scam and comes as a complete slap in the face when it comes from a company that is using religion to make money. I really don't care to hear about the losses they are taking from the free product they gave out either because; one, that was their choice to do so, two it was used as an attempt to distract me while they were scamming me into the contract, and finally, there is no way the free -and I emphasize - crap they gave me is worth the $500.00.

Finally, even if they hadn't totally lied to me and ripped me off out of an incredible amount of money, I would still warn anyone away from this company based upon the product alone. The videos are poor quality and are nowhere near being worth the money. As is obvious on this website, these guys are dirty and are ripping off a lot of people. It appears they actually have a guy (Joe) assigned to give rebuttles on this sight! Buyer Beware!
