Living Scriptures Sets Their Sites on the Trusting Consume

Living Scriptures is a company that sells religious DVDs and books. I, like others, have been frustrated with many aspects of this company. When I first learned that I had to sign a contract to purchase any product—I ran. I kept running from their sales people until I had children old enough to watch them. When I decided to buy, I stopped running and listened to their sales-pitch from an excited salesman.

Against my husband's wishes I signed up for a BOATLOAD of DVDs that came with TWO BOATLOADS of free stuff. Fortunately, my husband was with me. He ignored the fast-talking salesman, read all the fine-print, and asked all the right questions. Meanwhile, I stared at all the free stuff I was going to receive and dreamed of how scripturally intelligent my children would be.

I didn't hit "Buyers' Remorse" until six-months later when my children were tired of the movies. The newness had worn off, there were too many Living Scriptures movies to pick from, they watched only their few favorites, and movies sat in our video cupboard in the shrink-wrap un-opened for months at a time. When we hit financial difficulty they graciously paused the shipments for us for 60 days (whoever has financial difficulty for just 60 days?).

Finally, after loading my video cupboard with too many Living Scriptures movies to count (and with half of them unwatched), my husband asked me to PLEASE try and cancel. And after years of paying I CAN cancel—only if I want to pay 1/3 of the remaining amount and receive nothing in return.

At least I knew what I was getting into. As I've read all these other complaints I see that many people were more trusting than my husband, and REALLY were blind-sided.

Make no mistake about it—no matter how much they say they're trying to clean up entertainment, Living Scriptures is in it to make money and, as far as they're concerned, the customer is NOT always right—especially the trusting ones.

My advice? Who needs a 25-minute $36 movie—no matter how good it is? Get out the scriptures and read them with your kids instead. Don't sign a long-term contract unless you're buying a house. And, if you can't live without these scripture cartoons? You can buy them off me for a buck each.
