This is a used bookstore and one trades one's used books etc, for other used items. I went in with trade items as usual. An employee asked me if they were donations. I ignored him and dealt with a young lady instead. He again asked me when I was walking away from counter. Odd thing to say, I asked employee what would make him say that? He laughed and said in arrogant manner "oh soooo sorry sir." I ignored him and I said no more to either of them. Later, as I shopped I asked another clerk "what up with that guy? How come he says that?" this employee replied " It's that guy's little joke" I replied "but its not funny is it? It makes you all look like a bunch of jerks, it sounds like you just want people to give you stuff and you do not even want to give trade credit."
I was not angry, just thought the guy was a little jerk. I continued shopping untill this second clerk came over to me and said " if I was so upset about it I could speak to the manager" I was surprised at this because I was not upset, just thought it was a dumb joke, maybe a little rude as well. I replied "I am not upset and do not want to speak to anybody". At this time I walked away further.
The same young man again walked up to me and started to speak more. I did not give him a chance to go further with this and abrubtly told him to shut up already and I really did not wish to speak further and to leave me alone." End of my conversation with these two.
Ten minutes later a man wallks up to me and says he will have to ask me to leave the store! I then ask if he was interested in hearing what had just happened? He says NO! And walks away. I was in shock. I was actually waiting and expecting an apology to be forthcoming!
Instead the man comes back over and says the police are on their way! I was in shock I think and figured the ploice will help set things straight. I have never been arrested or in any trouble my whole life. I have had 57 years to get into trouble. I have never even been in a fist fight.in a while the police actually show up and suddenly there was a tap on my shoulder and it was an officer who asked me to come outside with him. I did so and was told I was being arrested for didorderly conduct and tresspassing.
I went to trial for this and was found guilty. I had no witness and had asked police if I could get a witness from in the store and was told no. It was two against one. The police lied on their police report. The man who asked me to leave the store was not the man who showed up in court! I know he was not.
I was not allowed to ask the police anything. I could not prove anything and was found guilty but only given an unsupervised probation for one year.
I posted some comments on Craig's List. When arriving home the day of the trial i called up the store and left a message saying he ought to be ashamed of himself for lying in court etc etc, no vulgar language or anything else.
So, now I have another court date about this! This store actually prides itself on fighting censorship!!! Can you help with this sort of thing? I feel likeI have been ripped off of my rights to free speech and harrassed in the store. I feel helpless in this and totally railroaded. Help please
