Schoeder's ace hardware
Don't do business with Ace

On Dec. 3'rd 2012 I went into Schroeder's Ace hardware in Lombard (on Westmore - Meyer's rd.). I had a problem with my toilet & had it rodded etc. With no luck (later I discovered that it was a small glass bottle that fell into the toilet and was stuck in a pipe further back). Before I discovered this, I went into Ace for some advice. As I walked into the store, there was a strong spirit of arrogance which I ignored. I told the guy at Ace about my toilet situation. He said "It's not a clog; you just need a new flapper!" I replied, "My plumber said the flapper was in good condition & my toilet is only two years old." He replied "Well, your plumber is wrong!" Though I didn't like his attitude & I wanted to believe him, I said "Thank you, you saved me a lot of money." I bought the flapper he suggested. When I paid for it, I gave her the 71 cents change part in order to get a solid dollar back. She short-changed me a dollar & got 71 cents on top of it. I disregarded this (I was a cashier & know how this can happen).

The flapper did not fit. I came back & with a smile on my face, I said to the cashier "I got the wrong one." She only gave me a sour look. I picked out another one & when she gave me the change she short-changed me $5. Since my toilet was shut off for a long time, I really had to use it. So, I decided to call up when I get home & tell them—no big deal.

When I got home, again the wrong flapper. After using the toilet I called & told them about the missing $5. This guy was very rude to me (the same one who waited on me). He insisted that she couldn't of been wrong. I returned the flapper & didn't say anything.

The next day I called the manager, Dave Schoeder. He was very rude. He wouldn't listen to me & said things like, "Just the fact that you tell me that she cheated you twice tells me that you're wrong; Her family works for the police dept; You don't know what you're talking about." If felt threatened & humiliated.

I'm a very forgiving, kind & loving person. I was treated like a criminal. I believe in supporting small businesses but they were so exclusive against me that it made me ill. I know what it's like to be excluded, I never had a family & lived with other families—I was NOT included & they let me know it.

I was so bothered that I took the advice of my neighbor & called the police anyway (though I remembered the implied threat). The officer was NOT helpful & was siding with them. I asked, "Is there anything you can do?" He called Ace & talked to the manager (in a very friendly voice). When he hung up he said to me, "you're barred from the store; He won't have you as a customer & doesn't care." I don't know why he would say such a thing to me who was already hurting. Are people really, very extremely stupid? Or are they extremely evil?
