My power went out @ 1:00 wednesday am while asleep due to strong storm. Power was not restored till 3:30 pm Thursday. Power was out 38 1/2 hrs. I called DSS today and spoke with a lady last name of Mobley, in snap / food stamp dept at soc serv. I explained i'm on ssi and soc sec dissability and i receive food stamps a total of $ 117.00 per month. I told her all my food in refrig and freezer had to be thrown out due to power outage so long. The lady told me they are giving out sandwiches there i could come get one. Also was told they are not replacing any food stamp benifits.
I'm very upset, i spent most all my stamps on fridge & freezer food. I live alone and purchased fresh veg, frozen dinners, meat, vegs, etc. My mayo and eggs and such were no good. I would say i purchased $90.00 worth of freezer and refrig foods. I did not purchase much pantry items as that type of foods are unhealthy. When i lived in NYS they were prompt to replace amt of benefits loss due to power outage, but here in SC they do not care. I have no money, rescources, nothing to use to buy more food. I am unable to eat the rest of month now. Food pantrys only give about 3 days worth and you can not keep getting food from them all month. I need help PLEASE, asap.
