My daughter went to visit a friend at Kings Crossing Apts at appx. 8pm. It was dark, she pulled in and parked. She was there 10 minutes and noticed someone out messing with her car. It was a employee of United Parking Enforcement, Murfreesboro, TN putting a "boot" on her car. He informed her that she was parked in a restricted parking space. She asked him where she was suppose to park and he walked her across the drive (with his flashlight) and pointed to a "Visitor" parking space.
He locked the boot on her car and informed her that she would have to pay $95.00 before he would remove it. If not paid the car would be towed and it would be an additional $150. When she told him that the spaces were not marked where you could see them his response was "there is a sign when you enter". I went there to pay the RIP-OFF $95 with camera in hand. When I pulled into the parking entrance there is a small sign that has $95 on it and in small print about the "boot". There also are other signs to "Move in Special for $95". When I pulled to her car it is in an unmarked parking space. There are no signs stating that these were reserved space. Across the drive are the "Visitor" spaces which I had to move my car to be able to see the "Visitor" painted on the drive (This is why he had to use his flashlight to show her).
I took my camera, a pack of cigarettes and laid the pack of cigarettes next to "VISITOR" markings and the pack was larger than the words "Visitor". As we were waiting on the person to remove the boot another couple pulled up and heard us talking and they said the same thing happened to them and they know several others that this happened to. I am outraged about this rip-off. The parking spaces should be clearly marked, visitor spaces should have the words written where you can actually see them and I hope that I can do something about this. My daughter is a single parent who was just laid off and I can't really afford to pay for this rip off either.
I called the City police about it and the dispatcher that I talked to said that they can't do a thing about it because it is on private property, but she is aware of the way they are screwing around with people but it is out of their hands. I am contacting the Daily News Journal tomorrow morning and I hope that they will put something in the paper, I am also going to contact an attorney. I can't really afford to do that, but it is the idea that they can do something like this under the circumstances and don't even issue warnings. Most apartments I have been to either have a reserved for residents sign or an assigned number on the parking space. If I can attach pictures to this someone let me know how.
If you have friends that live at this apartment complex DONT INVITE YOUR FRIENDS OVER UNLESS YOU GO OUT AND SHOW THEM EXACTLY WHERE VISITORS PARK because they won't see it by driving in.
