My 19 year old daughter who has disabilities was driving through South Elgin when an angry male driver began tailgating her because the speed limit was not fast enough for him. When she tapped her tail lights as a warning for him to please back off, he swerved around her, gave her the finger and began to run her into oncoming traffic. She narrowly missed a head-on collision.
We drove 2 1/2 hours to file a report, but unfortunately, the SuperBowl was on TV. The officer on duty asked my daughter, "What did you do to make this person angry?" Then he talked to the man, came back, and REFUSED to let her sign a complaint because "his version of the story was different and it wouldn't be fair to this man. (He was a local resident) It mattered not that my daughter had a witness. The cop told her, "Well, she'll just give the same story you gave!" (Obviously, because that is what happened!)
My daughter cried all the way home because all she could think of was how her younger sister would have handles this angry man... She probably would have been shoved into the opposing lanes and killed.
It's just not fair...
