My daughter rented a house from Morgan Rich and Christina Rich in the early spring of 2012. Before entering in the rental agreement, Rich and Christina agreed to put on a new roof as it leaked. This was promised to happen soon after she moved in. After she moved in, they said they couldn't afford to put on a new roof and would have to throw a tarp over it. Needless to say, every time it rained the roof leaked into the home!
Shortly after moving in her grandparents (who are in their eighties) came for a long weekend visit from out-of-town. It absolutely poured all weekend and the roof was leaking everywhere, they had to put buckets and bowls all over the house. Then during that same weekend, the sewer system (septic tank) backed up into the whole house bubbling out the toilet and the bathtub out the bathroom and into the bedrooms and living room. Stinking sewer water everywhere that got into the bedroom carpets! After Rich came out and "fixed" the sewer (he himself said he had to do some fenangling with the pipes every once in a while as it was very old and not working right.
Also he had rigged the washer (which sat in the kitchen) to illegally run the wash water into the driveway. That was not as much a problem as the fact that every time you ran the washer, it also leaked water onto the kitchen floor where it then sat under the unit and ran out the side into the kitchen. Everytime. My daughter has a young son and did average laundry. So there was water on the kitchen floor constantly. He was apprised of this problem but did nothing to fix it.
After living there a few months, my grandsons room became mold infested. All his furniture was completely covered. You could barely breathe when you walked in the room from the stinch of mold. If he gets any respiratory illness, we will be seeking legal action for that.
A month after moving in the landlords - Morgan and Christine Rich - told her they were puting the house on the market (they never disclosed that before she went to the expense of moving in!!! They said they would be showing the house maybe once a week. Well they were showing it 3-4 times a week which meant it had to be 'show ready' at all times. The realtors would show up at unscheduled times and interupt her life.
My daughter finally had enough of the damp, moldy house, realtor merry-go-round, and deadbeat landlords and moved out late summer. She called for the final walk-thru. No answer. She texted. No answer. Numerous times she tried to reach them (she has phone records) no answer or communication from them.
She asked for her deposit back. No answer. Repeatedly. Finally 2 1/2 months later they sent her a letter in the mail stating they were not refunding her deposit of $750.00! Said she didn't do a final walk-thru with them! Seriously! Then cited that she had had her dog in the house, (which they knew when she rented from them) and there was a flea infestation. Really? Let's say that's true - that's a twenty dollar flea bomb. Small house 900sq ft w/open floor plan and only carpet in the very small bedrooms. I saw the house when she moved out, I helped her move. It looked perfect. No damage AT ALL, anywhere!
I called to talk to him and he was very nasty and said if i call again, (first thing out of his mouth after I identified myself) was that he would call the police for harrassment, then hung up on me! I called back and he said he was now calling the police, and all i said was that we would be contacting the Attorney General and he hung up.
I was going to give them a chance to make this right, just give her her deposit back, but now we will be contacting every authority for every violation and suing him in court.
Thank you ripp-off report for giving victoms a voice and helping others stear clear of criminals. I was there through all this and was witnessas were many others. My daughters is a very nice girl and I expect they thought they could just take advantage of that, but Mom is not so nice and I will see this through to the end untill justice is served! Believe me.
