I recieved a scam text message indicating that I won $1000 gift card because my entry was selected. The text message went on to say I need to visit BestBuyContest.com in order to claim my prize. The text originated from phone number 714-616-6154.
I did NOT visit this website or call the number listed in the text message. I was immediately suspicious because I had no memory of entering any contest and furthermore, when you do win a contest, an affidavit sent via U.S. Mail is mailed for tax purposes.
I immediately visited the authentic BestBuy.com website and discovered information on this scam. Further web research led me to this website, where it looks like dozens of people have been fraudulently contacted.
I sent Best Buy an email at [email protected] to report the incident and I suggest that any other consumer do the same.
