Husband and I are going through a divorce. Husband called homeowners insurance company and told them I was running a business in my home. The home loan and the deed are both in my name only and Mr. Dixon cancelled my policy based on his false accusations. Mr. Dixon did not call me or verify with me that this was true. He took the word of someone who since has been ordered out of the home by the judge with his child at face value. I received the letter in the mail that my homeowners was being cancelled and went to Mr. Dixon's office and he said it was because I had a business here. I asked him what he meant. I have a disabled tenant in the home who came into the home with my husbands blessings. I cook, clean, do laundry, and arrange for transportation via the ambulance service for my tenant to and from dialysis three days a week. The tenant has home health nurses that come on a as need basis and occupational therapist and physical therapist these are professional licensed health care providers. I do not provide medical care I do provide all other services as you would an ailing parent. My tenant is a family friend. I do not have to be licensed in the State of South Carolina to do this. I do receive rent and compensation for the services I help this man with. I am being denied home owners insurance due to this and I'm getting a cancellation which will make my rates even higher than they already are. I believe this is a direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act as well as current HUD laws to discriminate due to a disability. I have tried to tell these people over and over that I do not provide medical care but they refuse to listen and overturn the cancellation which will occur on October 28th at 12:00noon. Please help as this is ridiculous as well as illegal. Thank you.
