On November 7 I lost my job, and was forced to move from my rented condo before the next rent was due. I called Sean G. Walsh, the private owner-landlord as soon as I knew to give my notice. Sean did not come over to do a final walk-through, giving me the excuse he "didn't feel like it."
So I finished packing out and moved. The condo was very time-worn, and when I first moved in, I had to have Sean bring over a step ladder so that he could take the dirty dusty spider-web covered chandelier globes down, and then I washed them and he put them back up.
During the year I lived there doors fell off their rusted hinges; a sagging yellowed plastic cover over the ceiling kitchen light box fell out one night, scaring me to practically to death. The kitchen sink piping leaked and created a stain in the wall on the other side of the kitchen wall.
I left the newer efficient light bulbs in the master bathroom vanity; and left his original less efficient light bulbs in a box on the bathroom shelf.
The washing machine was so worn out that one day the plastic 'start' knob broke off in my hand. I put it back together with Crazy Glue! I am saying all this to say that when Sean did his walk through the day after I left (Nov. 30), he took pictures of the wall stain from his bad plumbing; pictures of the energy efficient light bulbs I left; pictures of the plastic light cover damage; my new bar-b-que that my movers forgot out on the back deck, and pictures of laundry that had fallen behind the washer-dryer. Although I hired a professional housekeeper to help me clean, this wasn't good enough; Sean sent me half of my original deposit He kept over $500!
As if that wasn't bad enough, I got a utility bill from Dominion Virginia Power for $91. That I did not owe. Trying to be courteous, I had left the utilities in my name and did not have them switched off before I moved out. I assumed that he would just do the reverse of what we did when I first moved in. I made the mistake of thinking he was honest. Former neighbors told me Sean left the lights on night and day as he readied the condo to move back into. He left the power in my name for 6 weeks!!! I wrote him letters, called and he hung up on me, and sent the credit agencies proof (a copy of my half-deposit check) that I did not owe the power company.
Anyone reading this, run from, don't walk into any dealings with this dishonest man!
