This company charges $2.00/2 hours of parking. We went over the time limit by around twenty minutes, and came back to the car to find a ticket for $20.00.
I have three problems with this: first, there are no posted breakdowns of fines anywhere at the lot, so we were caught off guard by the fact that the fine is 1000% higher than the price to park. Second, the company attempts to pass itself off as city government in order to get their money, which is dishonest. Third, after about 60 days, I received a letter stating that I now owed $65.00 and would be turned over to a collections agency if I did not pay immediately. I feel this is a predatory practice and extreme example of gouging.
After calling the company and attempting to come to what we thought was a more reasonable resolution (we offered to pay $15.00, the approximate price of the initial fine), we were told that the time for that had passed and we now owe $65.00. I have no other recourse but to be turned over to collections, as I am unwilling to submit to such gouging by corrupt shysters.
A final question is how they obtain all of your information. Obviously they have your license plate number, make and model of car, and perhaps the VIN number if they go looking in your windshield. But how do they get your name and address? I have a hunch that it is through the local government, which is also disconcerting.
